Horse Popsicle Recipe Repost

Exactly one year ago, I shared this DIY horse popsicle recipe to help you keep your equine cool & hydrated all summer long! I hope this repost will inspire you to show your horse some love this summer by making these DIY frozen treats! Horse popsicles are not only safe for your horse, but aid in keeping him hydrated; which is very important during the summer months. They can also be a refreshing boredom buster for your horse! Are you sold & ready for the recipe yet??

You Will Need:

Apple Slices

Carrot Slices (you can use any fruit that is safe for horses)

Ice cubs

Water

Medium Plastic Container

Instructions:

First place the fruit slices in the bottom of the plastic container. (You don’t want your horse to be able to devour the popsicle in one bit, so make sure the container is large enough.) Next put some ice cubs on top of the fruit to keep it from floating to the top of the popsicle. Repeat this until the container is 3/4 of the way full. Finally, fill the container with enough water to cover all the ice & fruit before placing it in the freezer. (I let my popsicles freeze overnight.)

Last summer, most of my horses really enjoyed these frozen goodies, however; some of my geldings weren’t very interested in them. My sister’s new gelding, Coconut (the newest addition to the farm, is Quinn’s 14hh Fox trotter) enjoyed his treat, he even licked it like a popsicle. I also made popsicles for the halfies! I think the Haflingers were disappointed that they couldn’t devour it in one piece?! *I think that means they liked it!* Not every horse will be interested in this frozen treat, you will never know if you don’t give it a try! And don’t forget the refreshing benefits of these equine popsicles! *I would love to hear about your horse’s reaction to their homemade popsicle in the comments!*
